In Hebrew tradition, God rebuked Hadraniel because he
blocked Moses' path and made moses weep when he arrived

decided to help Moses, which he did by using his powerful
voice.
Apparently, Hadraniel's voice can penetrate two hundred
thousand firmaments. Each word he says produces twelve
thousand flashes of lightning. Hadraniel is more than
two million miles tall. (Amazingly, Sandalphon is much
taller, and actually dwarfs Hadraniel.) Hadraniel helps
people increase the love they feel to their partners.

In gnosticism Hadraniel, great as he is, is "only
one of the 7 subordinates to Jehudiel, prince of fire."
As Hadriel, he serves among the numerous angelic guards
of the gates of the East Wind. In Sefer ha-Heshek he
is also one of the 72 names (actually more than 100)
of Metatron. In 3 Enoch, Odeberg holds that it is possible
for Hadraniel to be identified with Metatron and that
he has indeed so identified in apocalyptic literature.
(Greatness of God) The classic obstructionist gatekeeper.
More than 60 myriads of parasangs tall (2.1 million
miles or nine times the mean distance between the earth
and the moon), the towering Hadarniel threatened Moses
for coming up to heaven to get the Torah from God. Hadarniel
didn't realize that the Lawgiver had God's permission
to get this all-important document for use on earth.
When Moses started weeping from fear, God himself suddenly
stepped into the fray, testily upbraiding Hadarniel:
"You angels have been quarrelsome since the day
I created you." For previously giving me a hard
time over creating Adam, God reminded Hadarniel and
the angles, "My wrath was kindled against you,
and I burned scores of you with my little finger."
Hadarniel naturally underwent a quick change of attitude
and agreed to act as Moses' humble guide. Having Handrail
in his corner was a plus for Moses since,, when the
angel spoke the will of God, his voice reverberated
through 200,000 heavens. Nevertheless, Moses still had
to successfully debate the fire breathing Angels of
Terror surrounding the Throne of Glory, who tried to
persuade God to keep the sacred Torah in heaven and
not waste it on the mortal "dwellers of the dust."
