Ajna, 3rd Eye, Sixth Chakra element manifest/unmanifest

Our sixth chakra is located in the middle of the forehead. This is the area of the mind, of mental clarity of mental confusion. The powerful energies of the brain and nervous system are located here. Our sixth chakra also includes the eyes, ears, nose, pineal and pituitary glands.

Although in all chakras, the issues of strength and weakness play a role in the energies of a given chakra, the contrast between the light and dark is very dramatic here. Our ability to evaluate ourselves comes from here. There is a price to be paid for being ruthlessly honest with oneself, as well as for being extremely self-depricating. Feelings of adequacy or inadequacy result. We tend to live in truth or in lies. We tend to be open to new ideas or very close "minded". There is also an area or emotional intelligence that we either possess or lack.

The disorders of the sixth chakra are just as dramatic. They include brain tumor/hemorrhage/ stroke, neurological disturbances, spinal difficulties, seizures, learning disabilities, blindness and deafness. Far more intense than a sour stomach.

As referred to in the fifth chakra (the will), the mind is often doing battle with the heart. The ability to apply our emotions to our life with any clarity at all comes from a congruence between the mind and the heart that can be the greatest struggle that we face. That congruence, or lack of it, tends to play a large role in whether or not we have Faith, and if so, the quality of that Faith. This is where we evaluate conscious and unconscious insights. This is where we generate our creativity and intuitive reasoning. This is where we develop courage to look at our fears with honesty.

The shadow here in an unwillingness to look at ourselves, to determine and face our fears. A clouded mind cannot see reality accurately, and brings confusion and deception. Critical judgment can spring from our unconscious fears. This is where we reject the counsel of others and fear discipline. A primary fear of the mental area is also the complete fear or denial of the shadow side of ourselves.

There is an important factor that is worth noting here. Just as forgiveness originates in the heart, the concept and practice of detachment originates here. Development of both of those abilities as a way of life can ce critical of our overall mental, psychological and even physical health. It is also an example of how the heart and mind can work congruently to impact our will.

The sound for this chakra is the sound AUM. this sound begins at the back of the throat (A) and ends at the lips (U). The sound is constructed as AAA-UUU. When the two sounds have merged as one they will produce an 'O' as in OM. The color for thsi chakra is indigo.
